About your tour guides
The Hidden Gardens of Bath was set up by Helen Hughesdon in 2013. Helen has lived in Bath with her family for thirty-seven years. Flower arranging and a desire to grow her own food led her into gardening. “I love all aspects of gardening but especially good planting and design” says Helen.
“I attended a garden design course in Bath and designed gardens for friends. Visiting other people’s gardens and showing people round my own garden has blossomed into arranging tours of gardens. I possess enthusiasm combined with a sound knowledge of plants and a passion to see people inspired in their own field of creativity by the gardens they visit."
Bath is a beautiful city with a long history and superb architecture. Its floral displays, hanging baskets and window boxes are highly regarded and Bath is deservedly thirteen times winner of the Britain in Bloom competition. Yet, often unseen are the wonderful gardens which are hidden from view and are well worth seeking out. Helen says, "I love discovering hidden gardens and meeting the creative and hard-working owners. In putting together the tours I aim to share gardens that will delight, inspire and showcase what Bath has to offer."
American born colleague Kim Boehm is a recent addition to Bath. Her love of history and exploration quickly meant she fell in love with the city. Her love of gardening and enjoyment of all things flora and fauna has brought her into a perfect partnership with Helen. 'Meeting Helen and being able to contribute to The Hidden Gardens of Bath has been a wonderful fusion of all the things I love.' Kim has loved gardening for years and has taken inspiration from the beautiful gardens she has visited, from hearing the histories of the gardens and learning about the plants grown. 'I feel that my family and I have landed in a small piece of gardening paradise here in Bath. I can't think of a more special way to experience the city than through the lovely gardens that its passionate and generous residents have created.'
